Day 2 Route

Posted by: admin In: Route

Today traipsing played Paris, with an excursion to Versailles included. This is the outline of the path we follow today.

Esquema Paris 02

Just as it should be when the time is short we got up early, around 7:00 to be at the station in Bussy-Saint-Georges at 7:45. The trains we took are:

bussy-notredame

In this way we will be in the cathedral of Nottr Damme at 8:37 to begin our visit.

Nottr DAMME

The Cathedral of Notre-Dame is the most famous church in Paris without a doubt, still the quintessential representative works of the Gothic style worldwide.

Its privileged location, bordered by the Seine and landscaped front and back, make the cathedral can be seen in its entirety in comfort for visitors, you can immortalize your visit with beautiful photographs from any of the bridges that cross the river from your front yard, with the two main towers presiding over the image from one side, and can highlight the expressiveness of his famous gargoyles, or from the back, where needles include high crowned its "roof."

The construction of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame was carried out between ages 12 and 14 (of 1163-1345 in particular), and the project is Maurice de Sully.

The interior is certainly not as impressive as the exterior for the unskilled in art, but it's certainly impressive to enter the cathedral and placed in the aisle of the church facing the altar, having all its grandeur and immensity.

There is a museum with a treasure in the sacristy, which is accessed from inside the church.

If we can choose day and time to make our visit to Notre-Dame, it may be interesting on Saturday at 14: 30, because then you do a tour free of charge in Spanish.

The cathedral has a Latin cross, a front 40 meters wide, a length of 130 meters and a maximum height of 69 meters

For lovers of statistics, said that the cathedral has 5 naves, 37 chapels, 3 rosettes with 13.5 meters in diameter each and a total of 113 windows.

SOURCE OF SAINT MICHEL

La Fuente de Saint Michel is a central point, a meeting point for everyone who wants to visit the Latin Quarter.

However, it is the midpoint between the Cathedral of Notre Dame and the Sorbonne and the beginning of the famous Boulevard Saint Michel, commonly known by Parisians as "Boul Mich".

La Fuente de Saint Michel took the side wall of a building of six floors. Look to the Seine and is practically in front and the Palace of Justice, the Cathedral, the catacombs and the Plaza is dedicated to Pope John Paul II.

The fountain was created in 1860 by sculptor Gabriel Davioud and represents the archangel Michael brandishing aloft his sword and placing a demon enemy with your left leg.

At the top of the fountain were installed four figures. These sculptures were originally in the Place du Chatelet surrounding the main column of the same and represent the four cardinal virtues: temperance, justice, prudence and fortitude.

0-0-0 - 11-541430-0-0 - 11-59148 0-0-0 - 12-00149

These were sculpted by Jean-Auguste Barre (Prudence), Jean-Baptiste Claude Eugène Guillaume (the fort), Robert Louis-Valentin (Justice) and Temperance was the work of Charles Gumery.

The source is very high, reaching its peak measured in over twenty-six feet, for only fifteen feet wide. To serve as a buttress, it was decided intal at its base a large staircase on a pond water falling from the source and mouth of the two bronze dragons that spit water jets.

The arch in the central part of the whole sculpture, serving niche where the statue of San Miguel, is surrounded by four Corinthian columns in red marble of Languedoc.

The statue of St. Michel, sculpted by Francisque-Joseph Duret is placed on a rock and stone that is born Soignies a waterfall that flows into the lower reaches of the pond.

The source is dominated by a panel of green marble with the inscription commemorating the building, surrounded by two pillars of support, ended on its top by a pediment broken by the arms of the emperor.

In the vicinity of the source is very cheap places to try crepes or sandwiches.

PASEO POR EL BARRIO LATINO

Located in the vicinity of the source of San Miguel, mentioned above, more precisely the source enters the area and the University of La Sorbonne and interesting stroll through the area.

We form a series of small streets and alleys where there is only bars and restaurants all over the world and for all budgets and can have different restaurants within a few meters Greek, Italian, Chinese or Japanese, and Irish pubs, together with typical pubs to the more typical Parisian style fashion. Without doubt, the Latin Quarter is one of the few places where you can eat cheaply in Paris, although I must say that the quality is almost always commensurate with price, so if we want to try the delicious food French is best to try elsewhere, as in the Latin Quarter most restaurants offer food without the tourist to remove hunger, and although most offer an acceptable quality restaurants there are other basic issues such as customer and even hygiene are simply not present, fortunately these are the least nohay so scared, but if you can should look at the customer dishes before sitting down, not looking for just the letter and prices.

The Quartier Latin is a very pleasant place to stroll, and where not knowing the French language is usually not a major drawback because it is crowded with tourists, where in the restaurant in question does not understand us, we can always lend a hand (in tourist areas of course but do not know Spanish, the letter itself is often in Spanish, so we can communicate with the waiter in a perfect "French gestures," all master).

After our stroll through the Latin Quarter and have enjoyed enormous pancakes, retrace our steps to re Dame Nottr station where we got to the cathedral. From there we make the following schedule:

Notre-Eiffel

EIFFEL TOWER

The objective of this second visit to the Eiffel Tower is to have a few pictures of the tower during the day. Also from the Ecole Militaire Metro station we arrived at the beautiful park called Champ de Mars and we are at a distance appropriate to take pictures with the tower behind us.

VERSAILLES

Half an hour from Paris, is the city of Versailles, famous for hosting one of the most beautiful and important buildings in the world and symbol of absolute power of the French monarchs, and especially Louis XIV, the principal architect of Versailles is that is, which could enjoy life.

Versailles is also a historical place, because here was hatched and started the French Revolution, and twenty years later he signed the Treaty of Versailles, which would mean the end of WWI.

Back in 1623, King Louis XIII had built a hunting lodge located in a box, in which the monarch and nobles spent their leisure time. The place was so pleased the king who ordered it to be expanded, building what is known as "the old palace."

Later, Louis XIV obsessed with creating a unique environment palace, commissioned the architect Louis Le Van beautification and expansion of the original building, on which built the Hall of Mirrors, undoubtedly the most impressive room of the Palace of Versailles , and served room for example the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.

Inside the palace, and it highlights the Halls of Peace and War and the rooms of the king and queen, besides the Queen's Chamber, which is preserved as he left leaving Versailles Marie Antoinette in 1789. Also important is the Chapel, where he went to Mass every day Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI, and surprised at the Opera, a place where the monarchs enjoyed concerts for their entertainment.

If a visit inside the palace can be described as spectacular, it is nevertheless a visit to the gardens where you can walk for hours without getting tired of seeing gardens with perfect symmetry and spectacular designs and the large number of ponds and fountains with fitted inside the Palace of Versailles, and give an idea of the great work that had to be the time to carry much water there and put up and maintain all that spectacular complex.

After this wonderful visit, I assure you it is unforgivable to miss it if you go to Paris, return to the station you arrive and make the following schedule:

Versalles-Anvers

Anvers station is one of the closest to the Sacred Heart, our next visit. This is an image of the area so do not miss ...

GE Sacre Cuore

Enter the station and cross the sacred heart a series of streets that belong to the hill of Montmartre, we will find many little shops with souvenirs and curiosities worth seeing.

SACRE COEUR

At the top of the Hill of Montmartre (Montmartre) in the north of Paris, some 129 meters high above the Seine, is the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur, or Sacred Heart.

Montmartre means "mountain of martyrs", which according to the beliefs was the site of the martyrdom of Saint Denis, first bishop of Paris, and his followers. Other saints went through this hill, including St. Joan of Arc, Saint Vincent de Paul and St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis Xavier, who founded the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) in 1534.

There on the hill a great Benedictine abbey, which during the French Revolution was destroyed and the priests guillotined. From that building survived until today only one of the oldest churches in Paris: Saint Pierre de Montmartre.

020208_1138-Sacre-Coeur-Montmartre

The church, all white, resting on a crypt that is one of the sights to visit. Rather square base, the ship, prolonged by a choir, is adorned by a dome and surrounded by seven chapels, the central dome rises 80 meters, ie more than 200 feet above the city, which gives a clear day of 50 km radius. A massive square tower contains a bell tower, where the biggest bell in France. Known as "the Savoyarde" (was a gift from the dioceses of Savoie), is 3 meters in diameter and weighs just over 18 tons! Inside, the ceiling of the basilica is adorned by a huge 475 m2 mosaic depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The entrance is flanked by two statues of St. Joan of Arc and St. Louis.

To get to the basilica must overcome the charming streets of Montmartre and then the grand staircases. You can also use the funicular, which is already part of the landscape of the neighborhood and runs the 108 meters of ascent in 1.30 minutes.

0-0-0 - 18-39493

We in particular with the funicular and climb down the stairs ... is the most comfortable!

Indeed, near the funicular is a public urinals operate automatic currency. With a noisy cleaning system that made us quite funny. Whatever are very aided, it's been a while since our visit to McDonalds ;)

Now we go to the Pigalle station to the following schedule:

Pigalle-Concorde

That will leave us in the middle of Place de la Concorde.

PLAZA DE LA CONCORDIA

This square, octagonal in shape, was built between 1755 and 1775 by Gabriel, architect of Louis XV. It was the scene of many key historical events including the execution of Louis XVI. With its Egyptian obelisk in the center, delivered to Charles X by the Viceroy of Egypt, statues and majestic dimensions, the Place de la Concorde is one of the most beautiful squares in Paris. Rostral columns of the square were restored in 1995. Do not forget to enjoy the magnificent views of the triumphal route to the Arc de Triomphe and the business center La Defense, and toward the Louvre.

It also has wonderful views of the Church of the Madeleine and the Palais Bourbon.

concordia_

From the Place de la Concorde begin a romantic stroll down the Champs Elysees. This is the route of the tour:

GE concordia-Arco del Triunfo

The avenue is a busy and always crowded, and is a favorite of Parisians to shop, go to the movies or a drink at one of its terraces, always full of tourists. Here is the famous Lido de Paris, a large number of theaters and endless shopping malls, restaurants and hotels.

On the Champs Elysees is focused around the visitor and leisure, and even a visit to one of its car dealerships is interesting, as all who are curious are always crowded with admiring the various prototypes or vintage car and design set out there. We were to use F1 Alonso to win his first championship.

0-0-0 - 19-51500

The terraces are always complete and it is difficult to find a place, and if there is to be careful what is asked and look at the letter before, as for example the price of a beer round or over (depending on brand) 6 €, which especially if kids are going to think twice before sitting down.

At night, how could it be otherwise, on the Champs Elysees and around you can find clubs and theaters are also open late, so it is also a lively place where the sun sets.

nuevo-28

The end of this wonderful trip is the Arc de Triomphe.

ARCH OF TRIUMPH

Ssus or duplicate considerably beyond those of any arc of triumph "normal" in both width and height, this being its most outstanding feature, which is even more true if you drive to the top of the arch, and from there it is can see what is probably the most beautiful view of Paris, because although obviously be at a height below the Eiffel Tower and the Montparnasse Tower (the tallest building in the city), from the Arc de Triomphe perfectly provided the perfect picture of the star which gives its name to the square, square is the origin of 12 major roads that leave from there. In addition, its sides the view is amazing, taking on one side a spectacular view of the Champs Elysees, one of the Avenue de la Grande Armée to the Arc de la Defense at the bottom "in competition", the Eiffel Tower on one side and secondly the bright Sacred Heart of Montmartre. As there, the only thing bad about having to climb is the coin box office, which as almost always in Paris, it is probably overkill, but hey, it must be borne in mind that if everyone who visits Paris Eiffel Tower rises to the same should do with the Arc de Triomphe, especially when the view is more spectacular, if possible.

0-0-0 - 20-08508

As for his origins, taking place in 1806 when the then Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte decided to build a triumphal arch in honor of their armies and in honor of his victories. The arc has a height of 50 meters and the width is 45 meters. In the lower walls of Arco, which can be seen crossing the center of the plaza for a few underground hits are engraved the names of many generals and battles involving French troops. There was also built the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the end of World War I in 1919, and it is difficult to find veterans of World War II uniforms and flags going there do not know whether to honor and remember fallen comrades or to receive the homage and general recognition.

triunfo

To end the day we will say goodbye to the Eiffel Tower, but rising to its top and admiring the city of light from above. To get it you just have to direct our steps to the south, crossing the Seine, is not lost because we will see the tower from afar. I do not put timetables, fares and information because they are in the post the previous day.

0-0-0 - 21-10524

This rise is the culmination of a wonderful day, if you want an experience "special" the lift up (get ready for the tails) and walk down, I tremble the knees of effort!
